Academician Shi Min’s Visiting NJUPT at Invitation and Being Awarded as Honorary Professor

On May 18, at the invitation of the President Professor Ye Meilan, Professor Shi Min, expert in microelectronics science and technology, semiconductor device physics and academician of the National Academy of Engineering of the United States, came to visit our university, and was awarded as an honorary professor and carried out academic exchangeactivities.

During the visit, Academician Shi Min made an academic report entitled From the Invention of Floating Gate Non-volatile Memory to the Fourth Industrial Revolution. He interacted enthusiastically with the teachers and students present at the meeting, and shared years of experience in scientific and academicresearch.

Professor Shi Min is an internationally renowned expert in microelectronics science and technology and semiconductor device physics. He is currently an academician of the National Academy of Engineering of the United States, a foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, an academician of the Taiwan Central Academy of Technology of China, an academician of the Taiwan Institute of Industry of China, and an IEEE Life Fellow. In 1991, he won the highest honor for IEEE electronic devices, the Ebers Award ; in 2017, he won the title of IEEE Celebrated Members with Gordon E Moore (father of Moore's Law), which, up to now, has only been awarded to 10 scientists. Academician Shi Min is an internationally renowned expert and educator in microelectronics science and technology and semiconductor devices, the inventor of non-volatile MOS field effect memory transistors. He has made foundational, forward-looking and groundbreaking contributions in the fields of metal-semiconductor contact, microwave devices and metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor technology. Professor Shi Min's non-volatile MOS field effect memory transistor (flash memory) has become one of the leading products of the integrated circuit industry in the world. It is a key component of mobile phones, laptops, IC cards, digital cameras and portable electronic products. It also promotes the development of technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing, Internet of Things, robots and solid-state drives, etc. Academician Shi Min is well-known in the works of micro-electronic science and technology, and has made outstanding contributions to the development of semiconductor and personnel training. His book Physics of Semiconductor Devicesis one of the best-selling textbooks in all fields of engineering and applied science in the world. Known as the The Bible of the Semiconductor Industry, it has been translated into six languages, with sales of over 6 million copies and citations more than 47500 times.
